Institute for Narrative Practice

Stories shape how organisations think, decide & act.

In times of complexity and transition, narrative competence creates clarity, orientation and new possibilities for organisations and the people within them.

Why it matters

Navigating Complexity

"There are moments when the framework through which you interpret a situation begins to feel unstable."
Certain ways of understanding our experience begin to feel self-evident. They arise from what we have lived through — from expectations placed upon us, from institutional cultures and relational dynamics. Gradually, these narratives gather weight. They become assumptions, belief systems, dominant realities.
Narrative competence is the ability to recognise how shared stories shape how people think, decide and act — and to work with this intentionally. In complex systems, this is not a soft skill. It is a strategic one.
INP works with organisations and professionals who are navigating transitions where the old narrative no longer serves — and where new possibilities need to be deliberately constructed.
How we work

Three Ways to Engage

Each pathway is practice-based and grounded in systemic-narrative methodology.
Choose the format that fits your context.
01

Facilitation & Consulting

Systemic-narrative consulting, coaching and process accompaniment in contexts of transition. We engage where ambiguity, tension or competing perspectives call for a different kind of thinking.
02

Workshops & Deep Dives

Practice-based formats for organisations and professional communities working in complex environments. Designed for teams navigating change, ambiguity or strategic inflection points.
03

Narrative Practitioner Program

Structured qualification for professionals who want to work responsibly and competently with narratives in their fields. A rigorous, practice-oriented program with a strong peer community.
Areas of work

Focus Areas

Six areas where narrative, systemic and participatory approaches create genuine value for organisations and individuals.
Narrative Process Facilitation
Designing and facilitating processes that use story as a primary tool for collective sensemaking and orientation.
Participatory Communication
Creating spaces where diverse voices and experiences can be heard, shared and integrated into shared understanding.
Leadership & Team Development
Supporting leaders and teams in navigating transitions, building coherence and developing narrative awareness.
Impact Communication
Helping organisations articulate their work in ways that are meaningful, grounded and resonant with their audiences.
Culture Work
Working with the narratives that shape organisational culture — surfacing assumptions, enabling dialogue and supporting change.
Strategic Storytelling
Developing the narrative frameworks and communication strategies that help organisations make sense of and express their direction.
About

Ana-Laura Lemke

Multigraphy. The plurality of stories.
No experience is lived in a single line. Our lives are composed of overlapping narratives — personal, cultural, relational. Hi, I'm Ana-Laura and my own path has been shaped by this plurality. I've been a systemic therapist, an impact communicator and a narrative practitioner, working across phases of transition and lived experience in organisations and social systems across Europe, Latin America and beyond.
I founded INP because I believe that narrative competence is one of the most under-used strategic capacities in organisations navigating complex change.

What others say

In Their Own Words

"
Working with Ana-Laura helped our leadership team see the story we had been telling ourselves about the restructuring — and why it was making everything harder than it needed to be.
Dr. Markus Feldmann
Director of Strategy, European Public Sector
"
The Narrative Practitioner Training gave me a framework I now use every week. It was rigorous, practical and unlike anything else I had done in my professional development.
Isabel Carvalho
Organisational Consultant, Lisbon
"
I came in sceptical about narrative work. I left with a completely different understanding of why our change initiative had been stalling — and what to do about it.

Head of People & Culture, Tech NGO
